Fredrikstad FK won over Vålerenga with 2-0 in Wednesday's postponed Eliteserien match. Two set-piece goals gave Fredrikstad the win that sent the team to the top of the table with more scored goals than Bodø/Glimt. In the 39th minute, Daniel Eid took one of his dangerous long throw-ins. He threw the ball into the penalty area, and at the nearest post, Fall was able to get up unchallenged by Vålerenga players. With his head, he steered the ball into the far corner. Vålerenga pushed for an equalizer and had some pressure on the home team when Fredrikstad got a penalty kick a quarter of an hour before the end. Patrick Metcalf got a pass just inside the 16-meter line, turned and was fouled by Kiil Olsen. Emil Holten rolled the penalty kick into the corner. The reason for the penalty situation was, however, a misjudged throw-in. Fredrikstad controlled the game in the beginning of the second half and created several opportunities to increase their lead, but Vålerenga improved and threatened to equalize. In the 64th minute, Fischer was on a risky outing outside the 16-meter line, where he won a 50-50 duel with Petter Strand. Right after, Henrik Bjørdal played a perfect cross that found the head of Kiil Olsen inside the penalty area. His header bounced off the crossbar in the far corner. Vålerenga got several chances to reduce the deficit after the 2-0 goal, but had to go goal- and point-less off the field for the first time after promotion. Geir Bakke, the VIF coach, told TV2 that Fredrikstad gets the game on their terms and that Vålerenga struggles to get their own game going. Fredrikstad FK plays a cup match against Sarpsborg FK on Saturday, while Vålerenga meets Gamle Oslo on Sunday.
