Fredrikstad FK secured their second consecutive win in the Eliteserien by defeating Start 1-0 at Kristiansand. The victory was achieved through a well-executed corner kick just before halftime, where Samuel Leach Holm's delivery found Gabriel Wesseh unmarked inside the box to score the only goal of the match.
FFK had started the season strongly with victories over KFUM Oslo and Aalesund but have since struggled with inconsistent performances. With this win, they are now in tenth place on the table ahead of Sunday’s matches. Start, who previously held a three-point advantage over Aalesund for promotion spots, now finds themselves trailing.
The match-winning goal came from an American player, Gabriel Wesseh (18), who was signed from Atlanta United in July. His first goal for FFK not only secured the victory but also marked his coming of age with the team. 'Gabriel Wesseh has shown something absolutely extraordinary in the first games wearing the FFK jersey,' wrote football expert Lars Tjærnås on X.
After the break, Daniel Eid almost equalized by hitting the post, but Start struggled to create any real chances and went into halftime behind. Eirik Schulze had a late attempt at an equalizer, hitting the post again, but Start could not capitalize on their opportunities.
FFK will face Kristiansund in their next match, while Start has a Norwegian Cup game against Flekkefjord scheduled for August 22.
