Fredrikstad FK's young midfield gem, Eirik Granaas (16), has captured the attention of several of Europe's biggest football clubs, including Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Norwegian teenager, who has been compared to Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard, is now the subject of an intense transfer market battle.
According to French journalist Sébastien Vidal and TV 2 Sport, Liverpool has officially entered the race for Granaas. Among the other major clubs closely monitoring the Fredrikstad FK player are Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, underscoring the widespread interest.
Granaas, born and raised in Drammen – the same city as Martin Ødegaard – not only shares a geographical background with his idol. He also thrives as an advanced central midfielder, often in a No. 8 or No. 10 role, excelling with quick, precise passing, an eye for goal, and the ability to create chances in tight spaces.
His talent became evident when he broke Ødegaard's record from 2015, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in the Eliteserien at just 15 years and 90 days. Although all his Eliteserien appearances for Fredrikstad FK this season have come off the bench, he has already been trusted in six league fixtures, often brought on to help secure wins or change the tempo in midfield.
This significant volume of minutes for a 16-year-old so early in the season, which kicked off in mid-March, highlights how highly he is rated internally at Fredrikstad FK. The club sees immense potential in Granaas, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Fredrikstad FK's sporting director Anders Jensen has already confirmed the "great interest" from abroad. It is expected that any potential deal for Eirik Granaas will shatter the club's current outgoing transfer record, marking a significant milestone for both the club and the player.
This development follows Liverpool's recent commitment to youth, with professional contracts for Joe Upton and Finn Inglethorpe within the last month, indicating a clear strategy to secure future talents.
